Scope and Contents A diary kept by Abraham K. McKenzie, a businessman from Indian River, Maine, of a trip he made to Palestine with George J. Adams in 1865. Adams subsequently led an effort to establish a millenarian community of Americans in Palestine, sailing with 156 members of the Church of the Messiah from Boston to Jaffa in 1866. The group was known as the Jaffa Colony or the Palestine Emigration Association. By 1867 the colony had failed and most members had returned to the United States.
