The collection contains papers of Adelbert Merrill of Portland, Maine, reflecting his military career and subsequent retirement. This small collection includes notes from a course in anti-aircraft artillery, forms, correspondence, copies of special orders, etc. Much of the material concerns his efforts to obtain a pension and medical benefits after his retirement.

This collection contains both materials reflecting the life, interests, and activities of Frances Robinson Mitchell and materials which document the Robinson family's work in the lumbering and timberlands business in northern Maine. Letters and a diary of a family in Waterford, Maine. The letters are from William Munroe to his sons Josiah, Merrick, and Daniel; from Merrick to his brother Josiah; and from Achsah Carlton to her brother Daniel. The diary was written by Jane S. Monroe in 1847. Included also are photocopies of the letters and diary. Included also are photocopies of records of births, marriages, and deaths of the Delano family in Abbot and Guilford, Maine.

The collection consists of miscellaneous papers of Hiram K. Morrell, including correspondence from 1898 about a dispute with the Gardiner Water Power Co. over water damages to Morrell's property and a draft of a letter written by Morrell in 1903 to Andrew Carnegie asking for money for the public library in Gardiner. Also included are lists of names and addresses perhaps of subscribers to or advertisers in the Gardiner Home Journal.

Letters written by Eliab Murdock to his wife Sarah Murdock while serving with Company F of the 17th Maine Infantry Regiment and the Veteran Reserve Corps during the Civil War. Also includes letters written by Sarah Murdock to her husband as well as a few written to Murdock by his daughter Pauline and his brother James; letters of recommendation and reference, 1841-1844, for Murdock; and his military discharge papers and military pension documents.

Papers include copies of Coleman's letters, 1929-1945, primarily to his mother and sister in which he writes of his life while teaching in Berlin, N.H., as an analyst in the Bureau of Foreign and Domestic Commerce in Washington, D.C., and while serving with the United States Army in Italy during World War II.
