Edmund F. Webb Letter

Abstract

A letter from Webb probably to J.F. Parkhurst of Unity and Bangor, Maine, containing thoughts on the conduct of the Civil War. Webb asks Parkhurst his opinions about various issues relating to the war: what he would do if he were president, whether he would let the South separate from the Union, how he would deal with slaves escaping to the north, etc. Webb also gives his own opinions of President Lincoln, the War, and the South and its leaders.

Daniel Webster Letter

Abstract

A letter from Daniel Webster to John Haven in which Webster notes that he is enclosing a letter from Peleg Sprague. He advises Haven if he has a case like that mentioned by Sprague he should put it in Sprague's hands. The letter from Sprague to Haven, dated March 21, 1833, and also included, concerns a claim for cargo confiscated in 1811 from the ship Admittance. The ship Horace is also mentioned in Sprague's letter.
