Scope and Contents

A scrapbook compiled by Hitchner while a student at the University of Maine. It contains signatures and comments of class members as well as programs, photographs and memorabilia of campus activities, social events and the university's athletic teams. Topics of interest within the scrapbook include information about Alpha Omicron Pi sorority and photographs of parades held in Orono to honor soldiers serving in World War I.

Biographical Note

Barbara Dunn, the daughter of Charles Dunn and Isabel Ring Dunn, was born in Orono, Maine on March 4, 1898. She was a member of the class of 1920 at the University of Maine, majoring in English. She married E. Reeve Hitchner, a professor of bacteriology at the University of Maine, in 1927. Barbara Dunn Hitchner was active in many organizations in Orono and was dedicated to her research about the history of Maine and the genealogy of many Maine families. She died on Nov. 27, 1993.
