Scope and Contents
The record group contains research reports and publications created and curated by the University of Maine's Land and Water Resource Center, which is now known as the Senator George J. Mitchell Center for Sustainability Solutions. The majority of these reports were for Land and Water Resource Center research projects, funded by the U.S. Department of the Interior, as authorized by Water Resources Research Act of 1964 and subsequent federal legislation related to water resources.

Biographical / Historical
The majority of the publications in this record group were created by the University of Maine's Land and Water Resource Center, which is now known as the Senator George J. Mitchell Center for Sustainability Solutions.
The Land and Water Resource Center was established by the Water Resources Research Act of 1964 and was primarily funded by federal funds. The Center served the goals of stimulation and coordination of research, training and educational activities in the water resources disciplines, including soil suitability and land use. In 2000, the Center was renamed the Senator George J. Mitchell Center for Environmental and Watershed Research in honor of the former Maine U.S. senator George J. Mitchell.

The publications were transferred to Special Collections as Accession #2018-0822 by Carol Hamel, Senator George J. Mitchell Center for Sustainability Solutions. The publications had previously been stored in the Center's library.
