Scope and Contents
A miscellaneous group of records related to the history of the University of Maine, from its founding as the Maine State College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts in 1865. Items appear to have been curated and compiled over time by Fogler Library Special Collections staff to document key events, figures, and milestones in the University's early history. Most of the material is from the end of the Nineteenth century through to the mid Twentieth century.
The records mainly contain textual information, but there are also photographs, an audio tape recording of an interview regarding University of Maine history, and a box of illustrated Logomachy game cards featuring University of Maine buildings.

Biographical / Historical
The Maine State College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts was established in 1865. The College opened on September 21, 1868. In 1897, the College changed its name to the University of Maine.

Arrangement
The records are physically arranged by subject. Some file names were changed to make them more meaningful and to correct errors and dates were added where missing. Loose and unlabeled items were filed and labelled.
Content on the same subject and/or record type were merged where appropriate. Some material was separated into different folders where the processing archivist felt the content was on a different subject. Material was rehoused into archival quality storage.

Processing Information
Processed by Matthew Revitt, May 2019 and September 2023, Raymond H. Fogler Library Special Collections Department. Processing involved a collection survey and the creation of this finding aid. Material was rehoused into appropriate archival folders and the boxes and folders numbered and titled using information from ArchivesSpace.
