This record group mostly contains textual information created and curated by University of Maine Professor J. Norman Wilkinson, but there are also photographs of performances and audio recordings of the "Jigsaw Puzzle".

Each folder contains information regarding a specific production of a play put on by the Maine Masque, the student theater company at the University of Maine. Typically includes playbooks, scripts, photographs, notes on the production, newspaper clippings and reviews, programs, press releases, and photographs. There's also correspondence regarding some of the plays.

There are also folders with general information about the activities of Maine Masque from 1970 to 1996, including: newspaper clippings, photographs of performances, playbills, press releases, etc. Several theater-related theses are also included.

Biographical Note

J. Norman Wilkinson was born May 14, 1930, in Liverpool, England. He was an actor, playwright and theater director. He was a professor of theater at the University of Maine from 1970 until his retirement in the 1990s with emeritus status. While at the University of Maine Wilkinso directed performances of the student theater company Maine Masque Theater.

Wilkinson died in 2011 at the age of 81.

Abstract

The record group includes playbooks used by Wilkinson from 1971 to 1996 in producing various plays for Maine Masque, the student theater company at the University of Maine. Also included is information about the activities of Maine Masque from 1970 to 1996. Several theater-related theses are also included.

Arrangement

Physically the material is arranged by subject. File names and dates were added. Material was rehoused into archival quality storage.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Gift of J. Norman Wilkinson, Wells, Me. in December 2007. Material in Box 5 was donated in 2009.

Accruals

Accruals are not anticipated, primarily because Wilkinson died in 2011.
