Historical Note
Murtagh Hughes began in the public carriage business in Bangor, Maine in 1903. By 1914, he owned a general trucking firm, and by 1916 was a contractor and hauled sand and gravel, and did teaming. In the 1920s, it became the Hughes Construction Company, and was taken over by Edward Hughes after his death in 1927.
