The company was founded in New York City in 1949 by Bond and Thea Wheelwright. The company moved to Maine in 1953. They were publishers of "purposeful non-fiction, Maine regional books, and reprints". They also published municipal directories. Bond Wheelwright died in 1975. The company became TBW Books.
