Scope and Contents
Letters written between Aug. 1862 and May 1865 by Howard A. Camp, a member of the 21st Connecticut Infantry Regiment, to his family and friends. Collection also includes Camp's diaries for 1862 and 1863 and background information on Camp and his regiment supplied by the donor.

Biographical Note
Howard A. Camp was born on Oct. 7, 1844 in Durham, Conn., the son of Alexander and Abigail Maynard Camp. He enlisted in the 21st Connecticut Infantry Regiment, was wounded in 1864 and mustered out in 1865. Camp went to Hartford in 1875 where he joined the book publishing firm of S.S. Scranton & Company. He died on May 11, 1907.
