Biographical Note
Henry G. Wood was born in West Gouldsboro, Maine in 1896 (some documentation indicates 1897). He joined the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force in May 1917 and was sent to France. Little of his war record is known, although he was a member of the 2nd Forestry Company and was discharged in 1918 with the rank of sergeant. In October 1918 he wrote to his family and mentioned his company was confined to their camp due to the "flu," presumedly the Influenza Epidemic of 1918-1919 (from documents in Ancestry Library, September 2021).
