Scope and Contents

The Our Neighborhood Club papers collection consists of club program booklets, scrapbooks, photographs, as well as club meeting minutes and attendance. The club program booklets cover a span of years from 1908 to 2007. Each program booklet lays out a single year of the clubs activities, meeting dates, and officers. The scrapbooks and meeting minutes also cover a single year of the clubs activities at a time. The collection does have papers that span between 1908 to 2007, however, the collection primarily focuses on club materials during the 1960s through the 1990s.

Historical Note

Our Neighborhood Club is a women’s club centered in Old Town, Maine. The club was organized in 1893 and federated in the Maine Federation of Women’s Clubs in 1901. The papers in this collection do span the club’s history between 1908 to 2007, however, the collection primarily covers Our Neighborhood Club’s activity during the 1960s on through the 1990s. Our Neighborhood Club sought out the collective betterment of each member and the community by doing charity work. Members of the club met monthly to plan the various events they wanted to hold. Some of the events they hosted consisted of holiday parties, community dinners, dances for local teenagers, and fundraisers. They often donated to gifts, money, and time to hospitals, veterans organizations, and cancer research.

Arrangement

Donantion arrived with no known diserable organization. Five series were created: Programs 1949-2007; Membership Materials 1954-1998; Scrapbooks 1908-1989; Photographs 1980s; Clippings 1984-1992. Material within each series was arranged chronologically.
