Scope and Contents

Pre-printed books of about 50 pages. Each contains the printed "Extracts from circular instructions of the Treasury Department, to certain collectors of the customs relative to fishing bounty allowances..." as well as the "Oath of Master" attesting to the accuracy of the log of that boat's cod fishing activities. Also information on captain, home port, and dates. The logs themselves consist of brief daily entries giving information on weather, location, and fish caught. Logs are for the "Java" Kennebunk, 1854; "Anne Maria" Wells, 1856; "Rosco" Kennebunk, 1857; "Snow Squall" Cape Porpoise, 1859 and 1860; "Romp" Kennebunk, 1858; and "Swan" Cape Porpoise, 1860.
