The collection consists of financial records of S.S. Herrick and Company. It includes daybooks of the grocery business, 1896-1899, and 1908 through 1939, listing customer names, purchases and prices paid; and ledgers, 1892-1930s, with financial information arranged by customer name.

Historical Note

The collection contains records from S.S. Herrick and Company, a retail grocery store in Brewer, Maine. The business was started by Sewall Herrick in 1879. Sewall's son, Winslow Herrick, later took over the business and the name was changed to S.S. Herrick and Sons. Jeanette Wiswell bought the business around 1965 and operated it until it closed in 1971.
