Scope and Contents

A photograph album belonging to Austin H. Keyes, a member of the class of 1885 at the Maine State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (now the University of Maine). The album contains images of members of the class, as well as of college president Merritt C. Fernald and members of the faculty. Photographs of some members of the classes of 1883, 1884, 1886, 1887 and 1888 are also included.

Biographical Note

Austin H. Keyes, a native of Orland, Maine, was a graduate of the University of Maine, receiving a bachelor's degree in civil engineering in 1885. He was an educator and author of several textbooks. He served as superintendent of schools in Needham, Mass., and was a member of the faculty at the Keene, New Hampshire, Normal School. Keyes died Feb. 11, 1943.
