Scope and Contents

A photograph album presumably belonging to Will R. Howard, a member of the class of 1882 at the Maine State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (now the University of Maine). The album contains images of members of the class, as well as of college president Merritt C. Fernald and members of the faculty. Scenes of campus activities are also depicted. A handwritten index to the photographs is included.

Biographical Note

Will Russell Howard, the son of Franklin A. and Catherine M. (Patten) Howard, was born in Belfast, Maine, Sept. 24, 1858. He received a bachelor's degree in mathematices from the Unversity of Maine in 1882. He was an educator for many years, working in schools in Belfast, Maine, Providence, R.I., and Williamstown, Mass., among others. He also operated a machine tool manufacturing company in Belfast and owned an apple orchard. Howard died Feb. 16, 1952
