Biographical Note
Franklin Jordan was born in Saco, Maine in 1841. He left school at age 16 to go to sea, making several voyages before entering the Navy at the start of the Civil War. After the war he served in the Army in the southwest, lived in Florida, and practiced law in Los Angeles for many years.
