Biographical Note

Edward W. Whitaker was from Ashford, Connecticut. He enlisted in the 1st Regiment of Connecticut Infantry Volunteers in 1861 and then in the 2nd Regiment of New York Cavalry Volunteers. In 1864 he was mustered in as captain of Company E, 1st Regiment of Connecticut Cavalry Volunteers.
