Historical Note

The Somerset Railroad was founded in 1861 in Oakland, Maine. Reorganized in 1883 as the Somerset Railway, it was sold in 1904 to the Kennebec Valley Railroad Co. and in 1911 to Maine Central. It dissolved in 1929.
