Biographical Note

Frank Loring, a Penobscot Indian, was born in 1827 on Indian Island, Maine. Styling himself "Big Thunder," he spent part of his life as a public entertainer and member of various vaudeville companies. He was also the lieutenant-governor of the Penobscot tribal council in 1901-1902. Frank Loring died in 1906.
