Historical Note

The Lakewood Theatre Company, a summer theater in Skowhegan, Maine, was founded by Herbert L. Swett in 1926. He managed the theater until his death in 1945; his daughters and sons-in-law then continued to run it in the 1950s and 1960s. Grant Mills was the managing director for the theater, which served as a summer tryout for plays hoping to open on Broadway. The Swett family sold the theater in 1970. It is now run by a group called Curtain Up Enterprises.
