Historical Note
The Kents Hill School is a college-preparatory boarding and day school in Readfield, Maine. It was founded by Luther Sampson in 1824 as the Maine Wesleyan Seminary; its name was changed in 1860 to Maine Wesleyan Seminary, and Female Collegiate Institute to reflect its admission of women. In 1863 the name was changed to Maine Wesleyan Seminary, and Female College, and later it became Kents Hill School.
