Biographical Note
Joseph Westcott or Wescott was the son of Joseph Westcott (1779-1830) and Lucy Stover Westcott (1779-1862). He was born in Castine, Maine, in 1802. His grandfather, William Westcott, was born in 1734 and moved to Castine around 1761. William Westcott was a shipbuilder and master and kept a store on his wharf in Castine. The wharf and store remained in the Westcott family until the 1980s.
