Biographical Note

Harris was born in Boston, the son of Samuel and Sarah (More) Harris. He came to Machias, Maine in 1787, returned to Boston in 1788,and then returned to East Machias in 1789. He entered into a partnership with Edward H. and Nathaniel J. Robbins of Robbinston, Maine, in a mercantile business which he later continued alone.
