Scope and Contents Note

An account book from 1895 to 1898 listing workers on the dams on the East Branch of the Penobscot River . Under each worker's name are listed supplies he bought and how many days he worked on the dams during the log driving season from August to October. Included also in the account book are descriptions of the work needed on the Grand Lake Dam, Webster Dam, and Telos Dam in 1895, 1897 and 1898. Included are summaries of letters written by H. W. Averill describing the work to be done on the dams.

Biographical Note

Little is known about H. W. Averill whose name is on the account book. He lived in Old Town, Maine and worked as a scaler in the lumber industry.
