Scope and Contents Note

Business records of a manufacturer of lumber and cooperage in East Limington, Maine. Included are 4 account books and approximately 40 bills and letters. The first account book belonged to J. F. & A. H. Chase and covers accounts for the years 1909 to 1916. The second and third account books have no name and cover accounts for 1926 to 1928 abd 1936 to 1938. The fourth account book belonged to George Chase and covers accounts for the year 1938.

Historical Note

John F. and Amos Howard Chase, sons of John Chase, bought one-half share of their father's sawmill on the Little Ossippee River in East Limington, Maine, in 1880. John's brother, Josiah E. Chase, a part owner, sold out the remaining share a year later to John F. and Amos H. Chase, his two nephews.
