On May 6, 1896, George M. Staples and Ernest L. Staples, both of Turner, Maine, signed a partnership agreement to build and operate a plant at Turner Village for the purpose of sawing and dealing in long and short lumber, shingles, laths, clapboards, threashing grain, etc. The partnership was to be called Staples Bros.
