Historical Note
The Bath High School was built in 1860. The Phi Rho Society was organized March 27, 1868 by the high school students. William E. Hogan was the traditional founder. This was a literary and debating society with the trimmings of Greek letter secrecy. Membership was by invitation. Meetings were held weekly at the high school building and the order of business included a debate, a reading, a declamation and a critique. This society alternately flourished and declined through a half century. The Phi-Rhonian was the monthly publication of the Phi Rho Society.
