Scope and Contents
These Unclassified Documents are digital copies made from reference files kept by the DOD staff and stored on CD-ROM disks using Acrobat Reader when Secretary Cohen was leaving office. The official records of the Office of Secretary of Defense are held by the National Archives and Records Administration. Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen's collection of papers including correspondence with Congress and heads of state, reports, memos, press releases, and travel itineraries, trip books, public statements, talking points, briefings, news clips, photographs, conferences, hearings and special events are accessed through the Correspondence Retrieval System using Acrobat Reader. The records in this group are divided into five series: Official Correspondence, Trips, Public Statements, Conferences/Hearings/Special Events, Photographs, and News. The photographs are JPEG images of official events including award ceremonies, meetings with dignitaries, and travel. The news files are primarily the research gathered on behalf of DoD staff for daily information on world events.

Arrangement
On each disk, the Main Menu is connected by hyperlink to content lists, which link to the individual document, scanned from paper originals. Each series has a notebook with a hard copy of the Main Menu along with content lists for each CD in the series. These notebooks and lists are inventories for the records described in the scope and content notes below. Occasionally the documents are annotated with handwritten notes.
